Our Volunteers

Cirencester & District Talking News volunteers carry out a range of tasks including Administration, News Editing, News Reading, Magazine Presenting, Sound Recording and Copying the CDs to send to Listeners.

Volunteers work in small teams to produce editions of local news.

Each team comprises three Readers, a News Editor and a Sound Recorder. News teams record every six weeks.

We hope to set up magazine teams in the future (comprising two presenters and a sound recorder) to enable us to produce our own magazine.

We are always looking for enthusiastic new volunteers who would like to offer us their skills.  Role Descriptions for all volunteer positions are available below. We currently especially need News Editors and Trustees.

Our volunteers operate from our studio/office at Cirencester & District Talking News, The Old Department Store, 29-35 Market Place, Cirencester, GL7 2NX and/or from home, depending on the role.

Already a Volunteer with us?

The Charity is managed and administered by a governing body: the Committee, whose members are the Trustees. You can meet our Trustees here.

The Trustees have the ultimate responsibility for directing the affairs of the Charity and ensuring that it is solvent, well-run and delivering its objectives.

The Trustees comprise the three Officers:

  • Chair of the Trustees
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary to the Trustees

and additional trustees. Currently we have a Trustee responsible for the equipment and recording. We plan to appoint a listener trustee to specifically represent listeners’ interests. We would also welcome additional Trustees, either with specific expertise (Eg. Marketing or Funding) or more general experience to help the charity run smoothly.

Trustees’ names are registered with the Charity Commission, and the Charity Commission expects Trustees to take their responsibilities seriously, whilst recognising that they are Volunteers and may make honest mistakes.

The Officers of the Charity

Chair of Trustees:

Jenny Hincks: “I lived in Cirencester for over 50 years and my family have grown up here. For 20 years I have worked in the NHS at Cirencester Hospital before retiring to become a full-time carer for my husband and other members of my family. I have been involved in my community as a town councillor for nearly 20 years and I enjoy giving back to my community as trustee of among others ,The Big Yellow Bus Project, Governor of HSNHSFT as well as a volunteer of several charities. I  look forward to being part of the TN family.”

Treasurer:

Jess Whitman: “I’ve lived in the Cotswolds for over 30 years. When working I spent time in London, Switzerland and Spain and, since retiring, have enjoyed getting involved in the local community. I have volunteered with the National Trust, helped at a dementia support group and led a social group for older people in Burford. I’m looking forward to learning more about Talking Newspapers and using my experience to help it grow.”

Trustee – IT Estate:

Jay Ehrhart: ”I have spent more than 25 years working in journalism, broadcasting and communications, including serving as News Director at Radio Cayman and currently as a journalist for an online publication. I have extensive experience in community engagement, public service, media and volunteer-led organisations. Now based in Cirencester, I am bringing my passion for clear communication, accessibility and local storytelling to Cirencester & District Talking News.”
